MAKE YOUR VOICE HEARD by March 31st!

The Catholic Committee on Girl Scouting for Cincinnati and Dayton seeks support from all Catholic Girl Scouts, troop leaders, and supporters to reach out to the new Archbishop of Cincinnati, who will be installed April 3. Please read this letter and sign your agreement to call on the new Archbishop to restore the Archdiocese’s partnership with Girl Scouts of Western Ohio.

Now is the time to make your voice heard! Sign the letter by March 31 to help advocate for Catholic Girl Scouts in our community.

Updates from the Archdiocese of Cincinnati
Thanks to the work of the Catholic Committee, the Archdiocese of Cincinnati has updated its Girl Scout FAQ to clarify that some support will continue, relating to service projects, Catholic Awards, and blessings at mass. Look for an FAQ titled, "What types of support will continue at parishes and schools for Catholic girls who are Girls Scouts?" on this webpage to see the latest information.

Catholic Committee for Girl Scouting…Who We Are

  • We are daughters, sisters, mothers, and troop leaders who work to inspire girls to grow in their Catholic faith, become stronger members of their faith communities and to prepare them to live their Catholic values with a sense of purpose and mission. 

  • We are the link that sustains and strengthens the relationship between the Girl Scouts of Western Ohio and the Archdiocese of Cincinnati.

Our Mission

  • To promote and develop Catholic Girl Scouting as a support for youth evangelization efforts through leadership development.

  • To promote, support and administer the Girl Scout Catholic Religious Awards Programs created by the National Federation of Catholic Youth Ministries (NFCYM).

  • To promote the use of the Girl Scout Experiential Learning Model as a way to make the teachings and values of the Catholic Faith more relevant and impactful to each girl’s life thus allowing each girl to put their faith into meaningful practice.

  • To inspire Catholic Girl Scouts to become stronger members of their Catholic Faith, to prepare them to live their values with a sense of mission as a Catholic Girl Scout.

The Goals of Catholic Scouting

  • Empowerment and Discipleship – Youth evangelization empowers young people to live as disciples of Jesus Christ in our world today.

  • Full participation in the Faith Community – Youth evangelization seeks to draw young people to responsible participation in the life, mission and work of the faith community.

  • Personal and Spiritual Growth – Youth evangelization works to foster the total personal and spiritual growth of each young person

 

Our Committee Responsibilities

  • Provide ongoing promotion and support for Catholic Religious Awards Programs, Girl Scout Faith Awards and Seeds of Faith Award celebration.

  • Provide girls under Catholic sponsorship with programs and activities, which support the spiritual, religious, vocational, and educational needs of their members.

  • Provide unit leaders guidance, support, motivation, and direction to achieve the objective of Catholics in Scouting and Scouting as a youth ministry.

  • In partnership with the Girl Scouts of Western Ohio, establish standards for quality for Girl Scout troops and volunteers, including but not limited to special provisions for orientation and training for Girl Scout leaders operating in Catholic settings.

  • Support, strengthen, and promote the growth of Catholics in Girl Scouting.

  • Promote and assist in spiritual development programs for Catholic Leaders.

  • Provide guidance to troops and groups operating in Catholic settings (parishes, schools, etc.) as it relates to Catholic teaching.

  • Provide spiritual enrichment for Girl Scouts through retreats, days of recollection, and pilgrimages

  • Promote National Catholic Girl Scouting services and make materials available in the diocese.

  • Act as a liaison between the Archdiocese of Cincinnati and Girl Scouts of Western Ohio.

  • Maintain updated documents and statistics and help stimulate the fulfilment of responsibilities of Catholic lay people in Girl Scouting programs.
